Meri Popins 3

CHAPTER THREE

Laughing Gas

Gas za smejanje

It was a cold morning and everything was grey.

Bilo je hladno jutro i sve je bilo sivo.

The sky was grey, the clouds were grey and even the people looked grey.

Jane and Michael sat in the Nursery window and watched the rain.

“I wish something nice would happen,” said Jane.

„Volela bih da se desi nešto lepo,“ rekla je Džejn.

“So do I,” said Michael.

„I ja,“ rekao je Majkl.

Just then Mary Poppins came into the room.

U tom trenutku ušla je Meri Popins.

“We’re going to visit my uncle,” she said.

„Idemo da posetimo mog ujaka,“ rekla je.

“Will he give us tea?” asked Jane.

„Hoće li nam dati čaj?“ pitala je Džejn.

“Yes, if he can stop laughing long enough,” said Mary Poppins.

„Da, ako može da prestane da se smeje dovoljno dugo,“ rekla je Meri Popins.

Jane and Michael looked at each other.

Džejn i Majkl su se pogledali.

They liked tea. But what did she mean — stop laughing?

They went down the street, through the rain, and turned the corner.

Krenuli su niz ulicu, kroz kišu, i skrenuli iza ugla.

Then Mary Poppins stopped in front of a small house with blue curtains.

She knocked three times.

Pokucala je tri puta.

They waited.

Sačekali su.

Then the door opened, and a man’s head looked out.

“Ah, it’s you, my dear!” said the man.

„Ah, to si ti, draga moja!“ rekao je čovek.

He looked very funny.

Izgledao je veoma smešno.

His face was round and pink and his eyes were shining.

But the strangest thing was that he was not standing on the floor —

— he was floating in the air like a balloon.

— lebdio je u vazduhu kao balon.

Mary Poppins, Jane, and Michael went in.

Meri Popins, Džejn i Majkl su ušli.

The room looked quite ordinary — chairs, table, bookshelves.

But the man was at the ceiling!

Ali čovek je bio pri plafonu!

“My dear,” said Mary Poppins, “this is my uncle, Mr. Wigg.”

„Dragi moji,“ rekla je Meri Popins, „ovo je moj ujak, gospodin Vig.“

“Delighted to meet you,” said Mr. Wigg from the air.

„Drago mi je da vas upoznam,“ rekao je gospodin Vig s visine.

Jane and Michael didn’t know what to say.

Džejn i Majkl nisu znali šta da kažu.

“Come in, come in,” said Mr. Wigg, laughing.

„Uđite, uđite,“ rekao je gospodin Vig, smejući se.

“Oh dear — oh dear! Don’t look at me! I’m very ashamed!”

„O, dragi moji — o, sram me je! Ne gledajte me!“

“But why are you up there?” asked Michael.

„Ali zašto ste gore?“ pitao je Majkl.

“Well,” said Mr. Wigg, “it’s like this — on certain days, when I laugh — I float!”

„Pa,“ rekao je gospodin Vig, „to je ovako — određenih dana, kad se nasmejem — poletim!“

“And today is one of those days.”

„A danas je baš jedan od tih dana.“

He began to laugh again, and floated a little higher.

Ponovo se nasmejao i poleteo još više.

“It’s the laughing gas!” he giggled.

„To je gas za smejanje!“ kikotao je.

“If I laugh hard enough, I’ll float right away into the sky!”

„Ako se još više nasmejem, odleteću pravo u nebo!“

Jane and Michael laughed too.

Džejn i Majkl su se takođe nasmejali.

And then a funny thing happened.

A onda se desilo nešto smešno.

Michael suddenly began to float — up, up, up!

Then Jane followed.

Zatim je poletela i Džejn.

“Come up, Mary Poppins!” they shouted.

„Pođi gore, Meri Popins!“ vikali su.

But Mary Poppins stayed on the ground.

Ali Meri Popins je ostala na zemlji.

“It’s not proper,” she said.

„To nije pristojno,“ rekla je.

They laughed and played in the air.

Smejali su se i igrali u vazduhu.

Mr. Wigg turned upside down and recited poems.

Gospodin Vig se okrenuo naopačke i recitovao pesme.

Jane floated by the bookcase and read a story upside down.

Džejn je lebdela pored police sa knjigama i čitala priču naopačke.

Michael turned somersaults in the air.

Majkl je pravio kolutove u vazduhu.

“It’s the best tea-party ever!” cried Jane.

„Ovo je najbolja čajanka ikada!“ uzviknula je Džejn.

“Time for tea!” said Mary Poppins.

„Vreme je za čaj!“ rekla je Meri Popins.

They all looked at the table — down below.

“Oh no! We can’t have tea up here!” said Mr. Wigg.

„O ne! Ne možemo piti čaj ovde gore!“ rekao je gospodin Vig.

“But we can!” cried Michael.

„Ali možemo!“ viknuo je Majkl.

“Let’s laugh the table up too!” said Jane.

„Hajde dase nasmejemo i podignemo sto!“ rekla je Džejn.

They all laughed and laughed — and up came the table, the chairs, the cups, the kettle, and the milk!

So they had their tea in the air.

Tako su pili čaj u vazduhu.

But soon Mary Poppins said: “Time to go home.”

“Oh no!” said Jane and Michael.

„O ne!“ rekli su Džejn i Majkl.

Then Mr. Wigg looked very sad.

Tada je gospodin Vig izgledao veoma tužno.

“If you think of something sad, you’ll go down again,” said Mary Poppins.

„Ako pomisliš na nešto tužno, sići ćeš dole,“ rekla je Meri Popins.

Mr. Wigg thought of Mary Poppins leaving.

Gospodin Vig je pomislio kako Meri Popins odlazi.

“Oh! That is sad!” he said.

„Oh! To je baš tužno!“ rekao je.

And he floated slowly down.

I polako se spustio.

Jane and Michael followed.

Džejn i Majkl su ga sledili.

Then they said goodbye and went home through the grey wet streets.

Zatim su se oprostili i krenuli kući kroz sive mokre ulice.
