CHAPTER TWO

The day out

Drugi izlazak.

"Every third Thursday," said Mrs. Banks.

„Svakog trećeg četvrtka,“ rekla je gospođa Banks.

"Very well," said Mrs. Banks quickly.

„Dobro,“ brzo je rekla gospođa Banks.

So her Day Out began.

Tako je počeo njen dan za izlazak.

Mary Poppins put on her white coat and white gloves and took her umbrella with a parrot's head for a handle under her arm.

Meri Popins je obukla beli kaput i bele rukavice i stavila pod ruku svoj kišobran sa glavom papagaja na dršci.

Mary Poppins liked to look her best.

Meri Popins je volela da izgleda najbolje.

And she knew she always looked her best.

I znala je da uvek tako i izgleda.

She walked very quickly.

Hodala je veoma brzo.

But sometimes she stopped near a car or shop window to put her hat straight.

Ali ponekad bi zastala pored automobila ili izloga da popravi šešir.

She didn't forget about her dress and her umbrella.

Nije zaboravljala ni na haljinu ni na kišobran.

So she went to meet her friend, Bert.

Tako je otišla da se nađe sa svojim prijateljem Bertom.

He was very good at drawing pavement pictures.

Bio je veoma vešt u crtanju slika po trotoaru.

It was a fine day and there were some pictures - two Bananas, and an Apple, and a head of Queen Elizabeth on the pavement.

Bio je lep dan i na trotoaru su bile nacrtane slike – dve banane, jabuka i glava kraljice Elizabete.

"Mary!" Bert cried happily.

„Meri!“ radosno je povikao Bert.

"It's my Day Out, Bert," she said.

„Danas mi je slobodan dan, Berte,“ rekla je.

"I know, Mary," he said, "but..." and he looked sadly into his cap.

„Znam, Meri,“ rekao je, „ali…“ i tužno je pogledao u svoju kapu.

There was little money in it.

U njoj je bilo malo novca.

"Business is bad today. I'm sorry, I can't take you to tea today."

„Posao ide loše danas. Žao mi je, ne mogu te danas odvesti na čaj.“

Mary Poppins thought of the lemon-cakes.

Meri Popins se setila kolača od limuna.

What a pity!

Šteta!

But when she saw Bert's face she said:

Ali kada je videla Bertovo lice, rekla je:

"That's all right, Bert. I really don't want any tea today."

„Nije važno, Berte. Zaista danas ne želim čaj.“

And it was nice of Mary Poppins because she liked lemon-cakes very much.

I to je bilo lepo od Meri Popins, jer je mnogo volela kolače od limuna.

Bert understood everything but he said nothing.

Bert je sve razumeo, ali nije ništa rekao.

He took her hand in his and said: "Look, there is a new picture!"

Uzeo je njenu ruku u svoju i rekao: „Pogledaj, ima nova slika!“

They could see big trees, green grass and blue sea in it.

Na njoj su se videla velika stabla, zelena trava i plavo more.

"Mary," he said, "I've got an idea! Let's go there, into the picture?"

„Meri,“ rekao je, „imam ideju! Hajde da uđemo tamo, u sliku?“

And he got Mary out of the street, into the picture.

I poveo je Meri sa ulice pravo u sliku.

There they were, inside it!

I eto ih, unutra!

How green it was there and how quiet!

Kako je tamo bilo zeleno i tiho!

What soft grass under their feet!

Kako je mekana trava bila pod njihovim nogama!

There were green leaves near their hats, and little coloured flowers near their shoes.

Pored njihovih šešira bilo je zelenog lišća, a pored cipela malih šarenih cvetova.

Mary Poppins looked at Bert.

Meri Popins je pogledala Berta.

Now he had a bright green-and-red coat and white trousers and a new yellow hat.

Sada je imao sjajan zeleni i crveni kaput, bele pantalone i novi žuti šešir.

"Bert, you look fine!" she cried.

„Berte, izgledaš odlično!“ povikala je.

Bert could not say anything; he was looking at her with round eyes!

Bert nije mogao ništa da kaže; gledao ju je krupnim očima!

She took a little mirror out of her bag and looked into it.

Izvadila je malo ogledalo iz torbe i pogledala se.

Round her shoulders there was a watery blue dress, on her head there was a beautiful blue hat.

Oko ramena joj je bila haljina vodenoplave boje, a na glavi prelep plavi šešir.

She was wearing shoes with diamonds like a princess.

Nosila je cipele sa dijamantima, kao princeza.

So, they went and went and came to a little table.

Tako su išli i išli dok nisu stigli do malog stola.

And there on a green table was Afternoon Tea!

A tamo, na zelenom stolu, bio je popodnevni čaj!

There were hundreds of lemon-cakes on it!

Na njemu su bile stotine kolača od limuna!

"Sit down, Madam," asked a tall man in a black coat.

„Sedite, gospođo,“ ponudio je visoki čovek u crnom kaputu.

Mary Poppins and Bert sat down on little green chairs.

Meri Popins i Bert su seli na male zelene stolice.

"I'm the Waiter!" said the man in the black coat.

„Ja sam konobar!“ rekao je čovek u crnom kaputu.

"Oh! But I didn't see you in the picture," said Mary Poppins.

„Oh! Ali nisam vas videla na slici,“ rekla je Meri Popins.

"Ah, I was behind the tree," said the Waiter.

„Ah, bio sam iza drveta,“ rekao je konobar.

So, they began their afternoon tea.

Tako su započeli svoj popodnevni čaj.

They drank a lot of tea and finished all the cakes.

Popili su mnogo čaja i pojeli sve kolače.

"There is nothing to pay," said the Waiter.

„Nema šta da se plati,“ rekao je konobar.

"Can you see a Merry-go-Round?"

„Vidite li ringišpil?“

And he showed them the way between trees.

I pokazao im je put između drveća.

"That's funny," said she. "I didn't see it in the picture."

„Zanimljivo,“ rekla je ona. „Nisam ga videla na slici.“

They came up to the Merry-go-Round.

Prišli su ringišpilu.

Mary Poppins and Bert jumped on two horses.

Meri Popins i Bert su uskočili na dva konja.

When the music started, the horses left their places!

Kada je muzika počela, konji su napustili svoja mesta!

What a surprise!

Kakvo iznenađenje!

Mary Poppins and Bert had a nice ride that day!

Meri Popins i Bert su tog dana imali divnu vožnju!

When they came back, it was nearly dark.

Kada su se vratili, već je skoro bio mrak.

"I'm very sorry," the Waiter said, "but we close at seven.

„Žao mi je,“ rekao je konobar, „ali zatvaramo u sedam.

May I show you the Way Out?"

Mogu li vam pokazati izlaz?“

"It's a wonderful picture, Bert!" said Mary Poppins.

„Predivna slika, Berte!“ rekla je Meri Popins.

"Well, I did my best, Mary," said Bert.

„Pa, dao sam sve od sebe, Meri,“ rekao je Bert.

And they saw a large white door.

I ugledali su velika bela vrata.

It was made of thick chalk lines.

Bila su nacrtana debelim linijama krede.

"Here you are!" the Waiter said. "This is the Way Out."

„Evo ga!“ rekao je konobar. „Ovo je izlaz.“

"Good-bye and thank you," said Mary Poppins.

„Doviđenja i hvala,“ rekla je Meri Popins.

Then they went through the white door.

Zatim su prošli kroz bela vrata.

When they went out, the lovely dress and the diamonds from her shoes and her beautiful hat disappeared.

Kada su izašli, prelepa haljina, dijamanti sa njenih cipela i njen prelepi šešir su nestali.

So did Bert's bright clothes.

I Bertova svetla odeća je nestala.

When she came back to Number Seventeen, Jane and Michael asked her:

Kada se vratila na Broj Sedamnaest, Džejn i Majkl su je pitali:

"Where have you been?"

„Gde ste bili?“

"In Fairyland," said Mary Poppins.

„U zemlji bajki,“ rekla je Meri Popins.

"Did you see Cinderella?" said Jane.

„Da li ste videli Pepeljugu?“ pitala je Džejn.

"Cinderella? Not me... No!" said Mary Poppins.

„Pepeljugu? Ne ja… Ne!“ rekla je Meri Popins.

"Or Robinson Crusoe?" asked Michael.

„Ili Robinzona Krusoa?“ pitao je Majkl.

"Robinson Crusoe - no!" said Mary Poppins.

„Robinzona Krusoa – ne!“ rekla je Meri Popins.

"Then you have not been to our Fairyland!"

„Onda niste bili u našoj zemlji bajki!“

Mary Poppins gave her greatest sniff.

Meri Popins je napravila svoj najveći šmrk.

"Don't you know," she said, "that everybody's got a Fairyland of their own?"

„Zar ne znate,“ rekla je, „da svako ima svoju sopstvenu zemlju bajki?“
