IELTS Positive or negative development essay on Success

Nowadays, some parents pressure their children to be successful. What is the reason for this? Is it a positive or negative development?

The main reason for parents to push their children to get success is that personal achievements become very important in modern society of individuals. If these achievements are the result of creating values and based on personal talent, it is a positive development.

To explain, I would note that since ancient Rome to modern days, developed society requires competent citizens. And vice versa, bright, talented individuals form a better society. And as a modern society can be considered mature, parents see their responsibility in raising competent children able to get success in all aspects - health, working, wellbeing, happiness. In general, human nature is built on the desire for development when children are supposed to live better than their parents. There are great examples, like Richard Branson and his family.

When parents push their children to find talent and get competences, creating good and useful things, it is certainly a positive development. But there could be a negative development, if parents, putting pressure on children, went beyond the reasonable balance in behaviour, put universal values at risk, and might even accept dishonest and power-hungry methods. We know a lot of examples where the desire for success without respecting basic human values, like love, honesty, tolerance, friendliness, led to very ugly forms of achieving pseudo-success based on ambition, vanity or greed. Such are irresponsible leaders of radical groups.

In conclusion, I would like to say that children will be successful if they have sincere and strong aspiration, even though their parents do not pressure them. When parents put their children in an environment of happiness, it is always a positive development, naturally leading to success.
